Some words about St Tropez…
Once a fishing village established during the Roman times, St Tropez was the first town to be freed by the Allies along the French Mediterranean coast during WWII. Located 1h30-2h15hrs from Nice, depending on traffic conditions, this seaside resort of over 5ooo inhabitants has been considered by jetsetters as the best place to see and be seen. For decades, many celebrities such as Coco Channel in the 1920s or Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s enjoyed staying there. Blessed with a wonderful climate and amazing light, the city had been attracting many artists: from Fauvists and Pointillists painters such as Matisse, Paul Signac, Bernard Buffet and David Hockney to today’s famous painter and sculptor Stefan Szczesny. Since the French New wave and Yéyé years, St Tropez a.k.a. St Trop has been famous for its many restaurants and beaches offering water sports activities and is still internationally-known as the Celebrity Mecca on the French Riviera. It is also port to many well-known sail regattas e.g. Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez held every year in September.
